This is a sweet little purple iridescent stained glass butterfly I mounted on this wood stand as if it has just stopped by your desk for a rest.
I made the butterfly from an iridescent deep purple glass for the wings and body. Each piece of glass has been hand cut and ground to shape then assembled using the Tiffany method with copper foil applied to all edges and then soldered. I added wire legs and antenna and finished it in a black patina. I have glued the legs down into this wood base. I often have small pieces of wood left over from making my display stands so I decided to use some of them like this. I stained this one with a medium stain and sealed it with a low sheen polyurethane.
The total height measures 3 3/4 inches tall by 2 1/2 inches wide by 2 5/8 deep. The glass butterfly alone measured 2 3/8 inches wide by 2 1/2 inches (not counting antenna).
Purple glass is notoriously difficult to photograph this one is in the back left corner in the video.
My pieces are designed to be used inside.
It would also make a great gift.
