This is a sweet little blue iridescent stained glass butterfly I mounted on this dark oak stand as if it has just stopped by your desk for a rest.
I made the butterfly from an beautiful clear deep purple stained glass for the wings and a brownish green for the body. Each piece of glass has been hand cut and ground to shape then assembled using the Tiffany method with copper foil applied to all edges and then soldered. I added wire legs and antenna and finished it in a black patina. I have glued the legs down into this oak base. I mounted it on a piece of reclaimed wood that shows some scars from its previous life. I stained this one very dark, to contrast with the butterfly, and sealed the wood with a low sheen polyurethane.
The total height measures 3 1/2 inches tall by 2 1/2 inches wide by 2 1/2 deep. The glass butterfly alone measured 1 1/2 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches (not counting antenna).
My pieces are designed to be used inside.
It would also make a great gift.
